One of England's Most Exciting and Versatile Classical Ensembles
As the name suggests, Symphonia Academica aims to create exciting concerts and exhilarating educational projects, bringing together a dynamic group of musicians from many areas of the professional classical music world. With this ensemble, you won’t find a constant churning out of repeated ideas, but more occasional offerings of a unique and fulfilling nature – for the audience and performer alike.
The musicians have busy jobs in many of Britain’s leading symphony orchestras and chamber groups, teaching at the conservatoires, schools and universities and presenting educational and outreach workshops on their behalf. Masterworks in Miniature It takes a special kind of project to bring them together. Take for example Mahler’s 4th Symphony, condensed for soprano and 12 players. A rare treat to play and hear and a stunning way to bring one of the greatest symphonies – by one of the greatest composers – into the school or village hall. Pair that with a tailor-made project for local school children, their parents and grandparents and you have something to get the entire community buzzing. But that’s not all. If the stage is smaller then the band can be smaller. On the other hand if you crave for Elgar’s Serenade for Strings played by a full string orchestra then you’re in luck – Symphonia Academica do that too. See for yourself. Why not catch the next concert? There’s usually something old and something new; maybe Purcell, perhaps a world premiere, but essentially something for everyone.
